Good to be visiting Colours again this year, and given how many punters were foot slogging about the racecourse today, the free entry and parking made a difference!
Charlie Foxtrot Models, Last Man Last Bullet, Grubby, and a few other familiar faces were there – but I stumbled upon a new kid on the block for 20mm too.
Enter Fizzer Johnson’s Men of Metal!

Firstly what a great name, not one you’re likely to forget and my son certainly loved it. It turns out today was their launch for a new range of 20mm WW2 figures, kicking off with some British infantry suitable for later war North West Europe.
Fizzer was great to talk with, and it sounds like there’s much planned for the range. These pics are of pre-production casts, so are likely to change.
Some more British infantry will be coming out, Commandos, German infantry and US Paras. They’ve also some lovely 18mm Napoleonics though I managed to resist the urge of another scale and another period!
Today was the first day the figures have hit the wild, and as of this evening the WW2 figures are not yet on the website, though if 18mm Napoleonics are your jam you’re in luck as they are on the site https://fizzerjohnson.com/
I couldn’t resist a platoon plus an additional section or two. He did have a display set of the 2 inch mortar teams which are being released soon, I’ll certainly be adding these.
All I’ve done to these chaps so far is a little prep, superglued onto pennies, plus I’ve given the platoon command and one of the sections a wash to show up the detail. I’ll let these pics speak for themselves.

My first impressions? Really positive. As you’ll see from the pic below they should mix well with AB figures if you so wish and to my eye mix better than the PSC plastics, Simon’s Soldiers or SHQ (recognising the latter are 1/76).

Available today were the command element (5 figures), infantry section (10 figures) and a prone PIAT team (2 figures).
Working out at £1.00 a figure, discounted to 80 pence as an introductory offer at the show, I think they represent good quality figures and good value. It’s clearly early days for the range and I’m excited to see what’s next, hopefully in time for Warfare in November. It sounds like the Germans will be out in time for Christmas too.
So in summary if you’re in the market for some more Brits, or if you didn’t know you’re in the market for more Brits, these are well worth a look.
Now I need a beer and to decide which figures I’m bumping off the Sword landing table to replace with these.
Just for clarity, I am in no way linked with Fizzer Johnson’s Men of Metal.
