Good fun day visiting the Dig for Victory Show today with my son. It’s the first time the show has been run for five years and was well worth the visit!
Held at the North Somerset Showground a few miles from Bristol, almost 200 military and classic vehicles were in attendance.
Quite a few traders to tempt you to part with your hard earned pounds – which I resisted, even a deac Bren Gun that would have looked great in Wargame Despatches HQ!
Something for everyone, there were vintage clothes traders, toys, militaria. Even a 40’s themed sawmill and a 1940s farm with running equipment, a garage, and a good 20+ classic cars. Yes I go to these shows to see the military hardware but it’s good to break it up a bit, especially for the lad.
On the way to the arena I couldn’t help but stop and chat with a reenactment group for RN Commando beach operations.

A valuable unit that did much on D-Day in Normandy let alone Sicily, Far East, and NWE operations to the end of the war. Great to have a natter and a huge thanks for pointing me in the right direction for researching at The National Archives. They’re taking a COPP element to We Have Ways ‘WarFest’ in September including a Cockle, looking forward to seeing that one! You can find them on Facebook or their website https://www.rnbcr.co.uk.
We managed to get a great spot to watch a trio of 3.7 inch AA guns firing off, and then sat ringside at the arena to watch post war vehicles, an arty demonstration, Second World War vehicles, and an AT arty demonstration. Not forgetting the infantry skirmish.

All in a very enjoyable day out, my son loved it too!
