WARGAME SHOWS: Warfare 2022

Tldr: Brilliant trip to Warfare 2022 wargaming show yesterday.

Having been to Warfare several times over the years at Rivermead, through to Ascot last year, I was looking forward to going again this year. I’ve got to say Ascot was hit and miss as a venue, but would Farnborough hit the mark?

Yes! From the well placed Warfare 2022 signage, to the well run car parking the first impressions were good.

Once inside, and having parted with a crisp tenner for the lad and I, the venue impressed. So much better than Ascot – more space across two large halls, easier to get around, plenty of parking and plenty more room to grow as a show for coming years. There was a really good range of traders and the participation/demo games were inspiring. Only issue was the lack of seating, but we made use of the floor 🙂

Likewise food options were good, and we paid what you’d expect at a venue of this type. Next year we won’t repeat the school boy error of leaving packed lunches at home!

Good to see Paul at Early War Miniatures and collect some pre-ordered bits. Picked up one of his new Plotz buildings too, more on that one over the next week, but it looks great and will I think sit nicely on the Sword board near Colleville. Ginger nuts were delicious as always, according to Henry.

The Plastic Soldier Company had some great deals, along with a good supply of all the currently in print soft back books. Got my hands on a copy of Westwall to scan through and it looks fun! Can’t wait for my preorder to come now.

Picked up a few more bits including some Adler figures, and a slight foray into the Hundred Years War in 28mm with my son. There goes the WW2 focus, and my first move from 20mm…

It’s worth a mention in despatches for 3D printing. Compared to previous shows (Warfare or others), there were several traders selling 3D printed wares as part of their offering, or pure 3D printed. As a hobbyist 3D printer I’m intrigued to see how this continues in the coming years, in terms of ranges offered and the price point. Perhaps understandably a lot focus on 15mm and 28mm, let’s see when 20mm gets some more love.

We didn’t manage many photos in the almost 5 hours we were there, but the fact we were there for that long speaks volumes for how much there was to keep us in the halls. £10 well spent!

Here’s a selection of the few photos we took:

Hahousen 1989. A Cold War gone hot type game, using Battlegroup based rules. Superb game!
Carentan. Rapid Fire (might have been Rapid Fire Reloaded?). Another great looking game.
Carentan with some neat little touches.
‘Nam. The sort of game that screams ‘try a ‘Nam skirmish’!

Loads more brilliant games we didn’t get pics of, suffice to say the quality was high.

Will definitely be back next year!
