18mm Napoleonic: British Part 1

We’ve all done it. Told ourselves ‘“no new projects until I’ve finished this, that, and the other one first”. And then bam – you’re into a new theatre, period, scale, army – or all of them!

I blame Fizzer Johnson. After building out a couple of platoons of Second World War British Infantry platoons, there has been a campaign of covert persuasion. Each time I’ve hit his website, there they are – dozens of cracking Napoleonics, just oozing “go on, Dave, it’s time”!

Enter 18mm Napoleonics.

AB Figures 9 pounder and British Artillery crew

For now I’m planning a Brigade sized force with some supporting units each for the British and French. Though I expect it’ll end up being a couple of Brigades, maybe a Division. Did I mean Corps?

Here are some of the first figures to arrive, some lovely British from AB Figures. Looking forward to comparing these to the Fizzer Johnson’s Men of Metal.

Well having not touched a Napoleonic figure in about 20 years, I couldn’t resist doing this during clean up.

Can you even call yourself a wargamer if you don’t do this while cleaning up your figures?

It’s taken me right back to the heady days of 1000’s of 1/72 plastic Napoleonics in the ‘90s and Carpet Wars, which you can read about in an earlier post here.

Ooh Nappies – it’s been too long!

Yeah, “no new scales, no new periods” is the mantra of Fort Syllabub and which I try to follow too. “Try to follow”!
I have one minor advantage in that Tanks (and ‘Mechs) are my big weakness, which pretty much excludes anything before 1900’s.
And yes, I’m sure every Wargamer does that!

Thanks John, it’s a project I’ve been tempted with for some time!
