WARGAME SHOWS: Colours 2024

Just back from Colours, held at Newbury Racecourse, one of the few shows I do my best to get to every year. Favourite daughter and I set off down the M4 at a leisurely pace and arrived around lunchtime.

Entry was easy and hassle free, and we were issued with a plan of the show. At £5 for me and free entry for my sidekick, plus free parking, Colours remains good value. On a side note it’s a shame they stopped handing out the pin badges, I enjoyed collecting those up!

The show was spread across three floors, and looked as busy as usual with throngs of punters – given the time of day the food outlets were rather busy. Most of the usual suspects were here, though I thought the demo games were a little thinner on the ground this year.

We picked up some 6mm buildings for my daughter’s Gem Chase game, great detail on these diddy houses from Brigade Models. A few other bits and pieces too, and I managed to resist temptation to kick start any new projects! Though the Battlezone Miniatures US forces do look good…

We stopped by the Rapid Fire stand, a quick natter with Colin and a peek at the RFR game, some nice touches and attention to detail on this one, including the Vierville street sign!

RFR game in 20mm, by Don and crew (Wargaming Headquarters).

As it was only a flying visit, about an hour for us today, I didn’t manage many photos but here are a few.

So all in all an enjoyable show, but I couldn’t help but feel like I wanted more from the show this year. The important thing is that Favourite Daughter and I enjoyed our road trip and both headed home with some new toys! Though she was disappointed that she didn’t see any horses on the racecourse.

Right, time to crack out some paint brushes. Stay safe and keep on wargaming!

Some nice looking games there – I’m quite envious of the well-planned road layout in the Wargaming Headquarters game! Glad you both got some stuff to take home!
